J and R Farm

Welcome to J&R Farm. We are located in the Arkansas River valley in southern Colorado. Our goal is to raise high quality show animals by selectively breeding for desirable traits in order to improve the respective breeds to meet and exceed the high standards of todays show industry. J&R Farm was founded in 2008 when Jose Gonzalez and Reuben Stauffer realized that they were working towards a common goal and decided to combine herds and flocks. They are now able to take advantage of combined resources that enable them to accomplish much more than they had individually.

Because we believe that consistency is the cornerstone of any good breeding program we strive to produce animals that share the same characteristics and traits that allow them to live long productive lives. We focus on goats that are large in stature, walk out on strong feet and legs, with udders that have nice texture and milk down well. Our herd is primarily LaManchas with an Alpine and Nigerian Dwarf thrown in here and there for fun. We chose the LaMancha breed because of their easygoing temperament and wonderful milk quality. We participate in the Linear Appraisal and DHIR programs. These programs provide invaluable information that help us to make breeding decisions that will advance our breeding goals.

Tempo Mr Bo Jangles

2009 was our first real year showing dairy goats and what a year it was! In April the goat show year got off to a very good start. The first show we attended was the Weld County Goat Extravaganza. At the Weld County Goat Extravaganza we had the BOB and BUOB LaMancha senior doe with Moonglow RD Lady Guinevere, we also had the BOB and BUOB recorded grade with Lazu2bar SL Lilac, though sadly there weren’t enough does for her to get a leg. If all of that wasn’t enough excitement for a show we also had the BOB J. LaMancha with Moonglow KD Crystal Tiara. Later in the year we were unable to attend the Wyoming Fuzzy Goat show, but thanks to our friend Raymond Stauffer our goats were able to make the show. After the Fuzzy show was over Raymond called ecstatic to inform us that Moonglow RD Lady Guinevere was the champion LaMancha in one of the rings furthermore, in another ring SG Lazu2bar RDL Ellie May was reserve champion and BUOB. Again Lazu2bar SL Lilac was the BOB and BUOB in al 4 rings but she wasn’t able to finish do to the low recorded grade numbers. Lilac only needed one more leg and we were beginning to think that she would never finish.

In July at the Bolder County Fair Lazu2bar SL Lilac was once again BOB and BUOB recorded grade, but there were not enough does to get her the last leg she needed. However, our dreams came true when we heard the judge announced her as the Best Doe in Show, we could barely believe it: finally Lilac was finished! In August at the Colorado State Fair Lilac again was chosen as the Best Doe in Show both days under 2 separate judges, and SG Lazu2bar RDL Ellie May was chosen as the BOB LaMancha in the second show. Our diary goat success did not stop in the show ring; we were recently notified by ADGA that Moonglow RD Lady Guinevere had earned the SG designation along with her milk star. We can’t wait to see what 2010 has in store for us!
