Welcome to J&R Farm. We are located in the Arkansas River valley in
southern Colorado. Our goal is to raise high quality show animals by selectively breeding
for desirable traits in order to improve the respective breeds to meet and
exceed the high standards of todays show industry.
J&R Farm was founded in 2008 when Jose Gonzalez and Reuben Stauffer realized that they were working towards a common goal and decided to combine herds and flocks. They are now able to take advantage of combined resources that enable them to accomplish much more than they had individually.
The Boer Goats:
Here at J&R farm we believe that one of the most important aspects of any breeding program is
consistency. To that end we have chosen to work extensively with select bloodlines out of the Farmer Stock Exchange (FSE)
herd. We have long admired the FSE herd for their consistent body style and strive to maintain the same standard of
excellence that Jim and Lynn Farmer have worked so hard to achieve.
Jim and Lynn Farmer are old time goat farmers. They started with angoras until the government discontinued the incentive package. In Nov 1993 they saw an article about Boer goats in “Ranch and Rural Living” and because they were familiar with the goat industry the idea of continuing with goat farming appealed to them. In April of 1994 Jim and Lynn got their first Boer goats a buck and a doe, wasting no time they started their flush program in October of 1994. Wanting to stay on the cutting edge of the industry they ordered some of the first embryos out of South Africa and had them shipped to Canada for implantation. They got 50 embryos and out of those embryos they got 26 live kids with one of those kids being Mojo Magic. Frances came about 1 year later in 1996 and the rest, as they say, is history.
We will continue to work extensively with FSE blood lines because the provide us with consistently predictable kids. Those kids then go on to be powerful, large framed goats with heavy muscling but at the same time the does carry themselves with style and femininity.
